I got really excited when I saw this. It does sort of suck that the characters are changing but I am looking forward to the melee attack feature. Chainsaws will be epic!

How do you teach kids that texting while driving is dangerous? One school thinks using Mario Kart Wii is the answer. Colorado’s Vail Christian High School has introduced the “distracted and drowsy driving program,” in which kids play Mario Kart Wii while answering and sending text messages, in order to see how phone use adversely affects driving skill. As a bonus, the program teaches awareness of hazards like banana peels and turtle shells!

The program, which also includes deterrents like a chair that simulates a 5MPH collision and a golf cart that simulates drunk driving, is part of Vail Christian’s entry in a National Organization for Youth Safety contest. The school stands to win a $10,000 award if its program wins.

BattleForge box art

BattleForge

Release Date: March 23, 2009

Developer/Publisher:
EA Phenomic/Electronic Arts

Genre: Real-time strategy

Game Summary: You build a deck of cards that you can purchase through a micro-payment system. In battle, you play these cards to summon monsters, buildings, and spells. You then must command your army to complete objectives.

Demo Summary: The demo for BattleForge is a great way to see if you will like this game. You are given access to 3 single player missions, and 2 multiplayer missions, which you can play with up to 3 other players.

Graphics: The graphics of BattleForge are nice. The monsters look awesome and the diversity is great. The battle field and buildings are also beautiful, and definitely compliment gameplay.

Sounds: The music and sounds are nice, and provide a nice ambiance to the killing of other creatures.

Gameplay: In order to spawn creatures, buildings, or cast spells, you need 2 things. Energy and Orbs. Energy is obtained from two sources: Energy wells found throughout the map, and the void, which is where your creatures go when they die. Orbs come from monuments also found throughout the map. When spawning a creature, if it is not placed next to a energy well or orb monument, it will be dazed, and will have half health and be unable to use any special abilities for a while. Being able to purchase packs of cards was a great idea, but may not work out well if you can only really win if you buy a lot of packs. But, this is countered by the fact that after completing a mission, you can get a few random cards, boosting the power of your deck.

Overall: BattleForge is a nice game, and because it came out on steam recently, it has become available to a much wider range of players, meaning the multiplayer will only get better. Definitely try out the demo on Steam if you even think you might like this game!

Score: 8/10

Saints Row 2 Review (Xbox 360)

I just got the game this past Thursday and I fell in love with it as soon as I started playing. The gameplay was just great especially with all the cheat codes. There are so many that you can use that do so many great things. You can have drunk pedestrians and cars that attack you just to name a few. You know what, screw this.

I really hate trying to sound fake for a review so here it goes. This game is very addicting. You start playing and before you know it has been a few hours since you started. There is mission after mission then if you can’t do one there are side missions. You can take on the chop shops, become a hit man, or even a policeman. Nevertheless there are many things to do in this game that will all be worth your while. Video games theses days are way worth your money. You pay $60 for this game and it will entertain you for at least a few months. Whereas you can go to a movie theater and pay $9, 5 if your lucky. What do you get for that? You just get an hour or two of entertainment then you have to burn your eyes out once you go outside into the bright sun. You following blog reader? Take my word, if you want a good time that will last for a long time buy this game. But if you are a college student that is a bit low on the money side make sure you put this game first on your list. It will beat anything else you could choose from. Well I’ll let you be on your way, I have to get back to taking some more cars to the chop shop. See you later.

I just got Call of Duty: World at War yesterday when it came out. I am currently at level 13 on xbox live. It is the best game I have played on live this year. I haven’t played the campaign because I am hooked on live. I will write a review later when I have had a chance to play it more. Since I preordered it I get the code that comes with it to download the M1A1. I haven’t used it yet but I’m sure it is going to be awesome. If you want to play with me my name is sweettea14. I will add anyone that wants to be my friend. Tell me what you think about the game and if you have it or plan on getting it.

de Blob (WII)

de Blob Box Art (One Week Review #1)Title: de Blob

Release date: September 22, 2008

Developer/Publisher: Blue Tongue/THQ

Genre: Platform / Puzzle

Other consoles: Nintendo DS

Plot Summary: On a bright, sunny day in the city of Chroma, an ominous dark cloud rises over the city. This dark cloud is actually a ship run by the evil I.N.K.T. Corporation, and they are here to turn the colorful, fun city into a dark, monochromatic, corporate empire. You play as de Blob, and you, along with four other rebels, must change the area back to the fun, colorful city it once was.

de Blob wanders the city spreading color and l...

Game play: This game is very easy to get into. You are a colorless ball of water, and you must paint the buildings, landmarks, and citizens with an array of colors. But, you must first get color points. Color points are the amount of paint inside your body, and the more you have, the bigger you are and the more you can paint. To get color points, you crush robotic paint cans that roam around the city. They come in three colors: red, blue, and yellow. You can get other colors by mixing these colors, which you will have to do for missions and to recolor landmarks. But, it’s not all that simple. You also have to avoid I.N.K.T. employees, oil spills, and other obstacles while completing the missions and painting the citizens.

Overall: This game is really fun, and has a great story. It provides a unique challenge, while still providing fun for quite a while. The game can get a little tiring at the beginning with the constant instructions, especially if you can easily pick up on the controls. Also, the goals, such as opening gates by gathering enough points, are set too low. If you like to paint and complete everything you can, then the goal unlocks will come way to early, and hardly prove a challenge. Other than that, the game is great.

Mercenaries 2

So I finally rented Mercenaries 2 from my local video store. Going in I had high expectations but I was surprised to find that the game exceeded my expectations. It is the best game I have played in a long time. It is like Battlefield: Bad Company mixed with Grand Theft Auto. You can shoot and ride anything, drive anywhere, break everything. Even if you aren’t doing the missions you can still have fun just riding around and shooting things. If you have been thinking about buying this game I highly suggest it. Plus it has a freaking awesome them song.
